MACHINIST

Job Summary:

Machinists are skilled professionals who operate a range of manual machine tools such as milling machines and lathes. Their primary function is to create precise parts for machines and tools, using a combination of manual and automated equipment to achieve exact measurements. Responsibilities:

Define and document job setup requirements.
Determine proper job sequences, tools, fixtures, feeds and speeds.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Provide their own basic shop tools and steel toe shoes.
Preform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages.
Inspects work against drawings before handing off.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Proficient knowledge of micrometers, calipers, indicators, and standard inspection equipment.
Experience in using manual machines (lathes, grinders, etc).
Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and manuals.
Good math and written communication skills.
Efficient time management skills.
Availability to work occasional overtime including weekends, public holidays and evenings.
Organizational and communication skills to work with a small team.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

Some experience in programming semi-automated or automated machines (lathes, grinders, etc). Experience with Hass CNC controls a plus.
Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) forklift certification is an advantage.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds at a time.
Must wear safety gear, glasses and shoes, when handling box cutters or similar tools.
Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks for most of the work day.
Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble products or machines as directed.
Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
