MACHINIST

Job Summary:
Machinists are skilled professionals who operate a range of manual machine tools such as milling machines and lathes. Their primary function is to create precise parts for machines and tools, using a combination of manual and automated equipment to achieve exact measurements. Responsibilities:
- Define and document job setup requirements.
- Determine proper job sequences, tools, fixtures, feeds and speeds.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Provide their own basic shop tools and steel toe shoes.
- Preform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages.
- Inspects work against drawings before handing off.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient knowledge of micrometers, calipers, indicators, and standard inspection equipment.
- Experience in using manual machines (lathes, grinders, etc).
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and manuals.
- Good math and written communication skills.
- Efficient time management skills.
- Availability to work occasional overtime including weekends, public holidays and evenings.
- Organizational and communication skills to work with a small team.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Some experience in programming semi-automated or automated machines (lathes, grinders, etc). Experience with Hass CNC controls a plus.
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) forklift certification is an advantage.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds at a time.
- Must wear safety gear, glasses and shoes, when handling box cutters or similar tools.
- Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks for most of the work day.
- Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble products or machines as directed.
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
